Today, I am delving deep into a very important topic that continues to spark fiery debates among believers and skeptics alike. I’ll be unraveling the words of Yahshua himself, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, where he speaks about the enduring significance of the law. I’m about to challenge some widely-held beliefs while seeking to uncover the truth.
In Matthew 5:17-18, Yahshua says, “For verily I say unto you, Until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of Elohim’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.”
This verse has often been interpreted in various ways, with some claiming that Yahshua is referring to the Mosaic Law being done away with. They argue that since Yahshua’s sacrificial death on the stake, we are now under a new covenant, and the Ten Commandments no longer apply to the faithful followers of Yahshua today.
But is that really the case?
Absolutely not! As believers, it is vital to deeply examine the context of Yahshua’s words in order to fully grasp their true meaning and significance. Yahshua himself makes it clear that not even the smallest part of the law will disappear until its purpose is achieved!
That’s a crucial point, and it challenges the common misconception that the law, including the Ten Commandments, is redundant. It seems that Yahshua is emphasizing the enduring value of Elohim’s law, upheld until the end of time.
But why is that?
Well, the law was given to guide and establish a moral framework for humanity. The Ten Commandments were not merely arbitrary rules, but rather fundamental principles of love, justice, and righteousness. They reflect Yahweh’s character and serve as a guide for human behavior. Therefore, it makes sense that they remain relevant and applicable in our lives today.
So, what about those who claim that Yahshua came to abolish the law and permit a more fluid understanding of morality?
It’s essential to understand that Yahshua did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. His life, death, and resurrection are the culmination of Elohim’s redemptive plan. Yahshua came to establish a new covenant that doesn’t negate the law but rather fulfills its requirements on our behalf. He perfectly embodied the righteousness demanded by the law.
That’s a fascinating perspective, and it sheds light on the misconception that Yahshua sought to do away with the law.
But how does this tie in with the idea that the Ten Commandments are still in effect today?
According to Yahshua’s own words, not a single aspect of the law, even the smallest detail, will pass away until its purpose is achieved. The Ten Commandments represent the core principles of Yahweh’s moral law, and they continue to guide our behavior, choices, and relationships with both Elohim and fellow human beings.
Therefore, just as Yahshua fulfilled the law, he invites us to live this fulfilling life as well. By following the moral principles laid out in the Ten Commandments, we align ourselves with Yahweh’s will and experience the fullest expression of love and righteousness in our lives.
Yes, Yahshua, the Savior of humanity, didn’t abolish the law; rather, he raised the bar. He taught us not just to avoid committing murder, for example, but also to refrain from harboring hatred in our hearts. He didn’t nullify the commandment against adultery, but extended it to include lustful thoughts as well. Through his teachings, Yahshua calls us to uphold the spirit of the law, not just the letter.
So, what can we take away from all this?
In light of Yahshua’s words in Matthew 5:17-18, it becomes clear that the law, including the Ten Commandments, remains a vital part of our lives as believers. It provides us with a compass to navigate the complexities of our modern world and serves as a reminder of Elohim’s unchanging moral principles.
I hope today’s discussion has encouraged our listeners to re-examine their understanding of the law and recognize its continued relevance in our lives as followers of Yahshua, the Messiah.

Really interesting, thanks for sharing!
Interesting! I agree that for those who follow the Bible or who see it as inerrant, the Ten Commandments would still provide a moral foundation. I also agree with what you said about murder. Whether we ever act on it or not, if we are hanging onto hatred, we need healing.
The Ten Commandments become increasingly relevant the more society moves away from these values.
I agree with you, deep examination is good and I am a believer of that as well.
You appear to understand a lot about this, as if you’ve written a book in it or something. I feel that you could simply force the message home a little bit more to others, however other than that, yours is a great blog and a fantastic read. I’ll certainly be back.
