The fifth commandment of the Ten Commandments of Yahweh, the Father in heaven, from the Scripture
Hello. Welcome to the educational podcast, the spirituality podcast where we dive into the depths of the scriptures and explore the significance of Almighty Yahweh’s Word. This is Elder Dan, your host.
Today, we’re going to be talking about one of the most crucial and often overlooked commandments in the Bible – the Fifth Commandment. Specifically, we’re going to examine the importance and significance of honoring our father and mother as the Fifth Commandment of the Ten Commandments from the Holy Scripture.

Friends, let’s start by looking at the biblical passage that outlines this commandment. In Exodus 20:12, we read, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving you.” And in Deuteronomy 5:16, we see a similar message, “Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your Elohim has commanded you, so that you may live a long time and ensure that it goes well with you.”
So, why is it so important to honor our father and mother? Well, first and foremost, it’s because Almighty Yahweh designed the family structure with specific roles and responsibilities. Fathers and mothers are entrusted with the responsibility of providing for and protecting their children, while children are expected to show respect and obedience to their parents. This isn’t just a human construct; it’s a divine institution that reflects Yahweh’s own relationship with us.
But what does it mean to honor our father and mother? Is it just about saying “please” and “thank you” at dinner time? Absolutely not. Honoring our parents means showing respect, obedience, and gratitude for all they do for us. It means listening to their advice, following their guidance, and valuing their wisdom. It means recognizing their selfless sacrifices and self-sacrifices they made for us.
I remember when I was growing up, my parents would always say to me, “Remember who you are because of who we are.” They were reminding me that my identity wasn’t just mine; it was also theirs. They were reminding me that their sacrifices, their hard work, and their love had shaped me into the person I am today.
And as we grow older, honoring our parents doesn’t stop. It’s not just about when we’re kids; it’s about respecting our parents even when we disagree with them. It’s about showing appreciation for all they’ve done for us, even when we’re not kids anymore.
So, what happens when we don’t honor our parents? When we disobey or disrespect them? Well, sadly, it can lead to broken relationships, hurt feelings, and even spiritual consequences. In fact, Psalm 78:1-4 warns us that failure to honor our parents can lead to Almighty Yahweh’s wrath.
But here’s the good news – when we do honor our parents, Almighty Yahweh, the Father in heaven, blesses us. He promises us long life, prosperity, and a sense of well-being. In fact, Proverbs 23:22-25 says that when we honor our parents, we’ll receive a blessing from Yahweh.
So, what can we take away from the Fifth Commandment? First and foremost, we need to recognize the importance of honoring our parents. We need to recognize that they are not just biological figures; they are spiritual authorities in our lives. We need to recognize that they have sacrificed so much for us and that we owe them respect and gratitude.
Second, we need to make sure that we’re honoring our parents in practical ways. That means listening to their advice, following their guidance, and showing appreciation for all they’ve done for us.
And finally, we need to recognize that honoring our parents is not just about them; it’s about Almighty Yahweh in heaven. It’s about recognizing His role in shaping our lives and our families.
That’s all for today’s episode, brethren and friends. I hope you all enjoyed reading or listening about the Fifth Commandment of the Bible and learn the importance of honoring our father and mother. Before I go, let me pray this prayer for you: May Yahweh bless you and keep you; may Yahweh make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may Yahweh lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. I humbly pray these things to Yahweh through Yahshua, the true name of the Messiah, our Master, and coming King, amen. May you have the eyes to see and the ears to hear for this heavenly message. Pray for peace in Yerushalayim. Halleluyah!

A very nice post, thanks for sharing!
Great review of the 5th of 10 commandments: Honor your father and mother. So true. I have seen over the past 20 years that moms and dads are actually disrespected. It’s horrible. Media teaches children that they are right and in control. It shows all children doing whatever the child wants. I fear where this is headed.
Our relation with our parents keeps changing throughout our lives. I wish everybody to be at peace with their parents and to have a great relationship of mutual respect.
This is amazing, and a reminder for people to honor their parents. It’s important to develop good relationship with the parents.
